Water Storage FAQ
Frequently asked questions on HydraPak water storage systems.
HydraPak offers the Seeker in 2 L, 3 L, 4 L, 6 L, and 10 L. For a solo overnight, 2 to 3L is usually enough; for groups, base camp, or dry stretches, choose 4 L or more. Plan for roughly a litre per person per hour of active use, plus extra for cooking and cleanup.
A typical backcountry setup pairs a hydration reservoir or bottle for drinking on the move with a collapsible storage bag like the Seeker for camp, plus a filter to make natural water safe and potable. The Seeker collects and stores several liters, then you filter into clean containers as needed, so you are not making repeated trips to the water source.
Yes. The Seeker's large 42 mm opening threads onto most 42 mm filters, including the HydraPak 42 mm Filter Cap and the Katadyn BeFree, so you can build a gravity filter setup. The Seeker+ versions come with an integrated hollow-fibre filter already built in. Seekers with our Plug-N-Play Cap fit our 28 mm Filter Kit, which works great as a gravity filter setup when paired with the Camp Tap (Camp Tap included with 6 L and 10 L Seekers).
Very. The Seeker is made of flexible, abrasion-resistant TPU with RF-welded seams that folds or crushes down to about the size of a fist and packs into an included storage bag. It weighs little, disappears in your pack when empty, then expands to full capacity when filled, unlike rigid jugs.
Yes. The Seeker can be frozen to use as an ice pack and for cold drinking water, or filled with hot water up to 60C / 140F to help keep you warm. The durable TPU construction handles both ends of the range, and an external capacity gauge helps you measure contents.
